Yes, gold prices have dropped substaintually in the past few months. If you are looking to buy gold jewelry, now would be a good time. The price of gold could go a little lower, but I doubt it will go much more. Check out this chart of the price of gold:

Almost all commodities (oil, precious medals, food) have dropped in price recently. So yeah, I would buy gold now if you are wanting to.

Absoulutely, gold in any form is good asset protection. Word to the wise, it's alot more stable than paper currency. Gold will be going up. My advice would be to buy as much as you can. Gold coins are great, in addition to jewelry.

if you have the money to purchase gold I daresay it's the best time to buy. It won't be long until it goes up again and this will only increase the value of your jewelry.
