Just about anything over thirty feet long could be considered a Yatch. Does it have a galley and Head? Generator Air conditioning?

If watercraft has loa above 30 ft, than its yacht, otherwise its a boat. But in USA people usually use word yachts even their loa is less than 30 ft. Luxury boat is a watercraft usually less than 30 ft and with the price above 1 mln $ 8)

The original dictionary definition is a boat with a sail on it. This has changed over the years, usually with a luxury feeling now..

Wow... After reading these answers, I am compelled to offer my own answer.

I have never heard the term "luxury boat". So...

Not all yachts are luxury boats. Not all luxury boats are yachts, but some do overlap. I have been aboard both motor yachts and sailing yachts that were certainly luxurious.

I have been aboard dinghys that are luxurious.

I don't think loa (length), or price, would be a defining factor for a luxury boat.

However, one answer above states any boat less than 30' valued over 1 million is luxury. That certainly limits it. I have yet to see a 30' or less boat worth half that.

Any boat, be it inexpensive or luxury, might be a yacht. In this day and age, a yacht is determined mostly by the pride in ownership it displays. I have seen old wooden boats that were only 20 feet long but were restored beautifully, some actually varnished to the bottom of their keel; vessels truely worthy of the title yacht.

Simple really, those of us here can't afford either. A yacht is a luxury boat if you can afford a crew so you do nothing but look at your trophy wife and your girlfriend on the back deck and they are both fine with it.
