Joseph son of Jacob was sold into slavery in Egypt a few years back. He had some adventures then a scarlet woman got him falsely sent to Pharoh's prison. His ability to see through the viel between the worlds into peoples dreams was noticed there.
Lots of Bible believing Christians know he read Pharoh's dream later in that epic and might be able to quote the NRSV. Good for them, really. But there was a story within the story, the Baker and the Cupbearer wanted to know whether they would leave prison or not.
So the Baker is killed per Joseph's prediction but the Cupbearer is spared. Power of yahweh over whatever, yes I know. But why? Why the Baker and not the cupbearer?
Because the Baker told pharo that the cheep wheat of the North east would break the army of Pharo. Amaranath was the tricky but high protein grain grown and used for the bread of Egypt. The Cupbearer told Pharo here's your beer sir and after a bit of a beer fest the drunken pharo could not remember why he was mad but that the Baker had been uppity and the Cupbearer had not stopped him from drinking before he was too far into the cups.
The pharo recovered from the hangover and freed his enabler. The Baker was however never repentant of his uppity attitude where he knew no god could ever supplant the will of the God of all gods, the god of Joseph and his Fathers.
