Default Gadget for VCR to DVD?

Is there some electronic box or gadget or wire to wire box that can convert VCR videos to DVD recorded format ? Something cheap?

Not looking to buy one of those expensive DVD/VCR combo boxes.

I don't know what you mean by "cheap" but sony has a box called DVDirect that will do exactly what you want for around $250. It can both convert regular analog VHS tapes to dvd, but it also can convert digital video tapes from camcorders to dvd.

Keep in mind that the advantage is that the DVD will not degrade over time (and now that the video is digital, it is easier to edit on a computer), but it will not improve the picture quality of your videos, you can't get something from nothing.

I just bought one for about $100 from a company called Plextor. I can use it to record from VCR or any old camcorder, as long as you have a DVD burner drive on your computer. It's easy to use, pretty flexible, and works well. I looked at another one from a company called Pinnacle, but I read that many users had problems and that their customer support was pretty bad. The one I have is called the ConvertX and they have several models from $60 up to $200 or so.
