can an apple computer be upgraded from a 9.0 to a 9.1?

a new printer we bought said the computer needed a 9.1 or higher system we have 9.0 can the computer be upgraded.

Yes, you should be able to do so. Here is a link with the hardware requirements (since it is mostly bug fixes, they should be the same as 9.0).

Remember to back up your important documents before upgrading, read the documentation, etc.!

You should be easily able to upgrade to 9.1 and from there to 9.2 (see Apple download source below).
